Obama threatens Putin with "costs for Russia" over Ukraine crisis

The President called Vladimir Putin to ‘address Russia's support for rebel separatists’ fighting the Ukraine government, the White House said on the eve of a seemingly key meeting. Representatives of Russia, Ukraine, Germany and France will meet in Minsk, Belarus, to try to bargain a ceasefire and end Russian-backed aggression.

President Obama on Tuesday warned Russia's Vladimir Putin that "costs for Russia will rise" if the Ukraine crisis persists.

Obama called Putin to "address Russia's support for rebel separatists" fighting the Ukraine government, the White House said on the eve of a seemingly key meeting.

The U.S. led in imposing economic sanctions on Russia and Putin cronies. They've hurt the Russian economy but not lessened the conflict, with government and separatist forces both trying to seize new ground Tuesday.
